In this tutorial, SFEM analysis of a building structure will be presented.

Description of the deterministic FE model

Consider the following six-story building to be analysed using SFEM toolbox:

Building.jpg

A static loading with a magnitude of 100 kN has been applied to the  floors in +x direction. Linear static analysis has been performed, where the second order statistics of the x displacement of the node 1016 is selected as the response.

The various components of the structure are described below:

Definition of the probabilistic model

The probabilistic model used in this tutorial is summmarized in the following table:

Summary of the Probabilistic Model

Structural Property

Distribution     Mean Value      CoV Value

Young's Modulus - Floors

Normal (truncated) 70 GPa
0.10

Young's Modulus - Stairs

Normal (truncated) 70 GPa 0.10

Young's Modulus - Columns

Normal (truncated) 70 GPa 0.10

Young's Modulus - Soil

Normal (truncated) 70 GPa 0.10
Total no of random parameters

4

The corresponding identifiers of the above probabilistic model appears as follows in the NASTRAN input file:

$ Material Record : soil
MAT1  ,   1  ,  <cossan name="RV1" format="%10.4e" original="1" /> ,   ,  .2 , 2500.
$ Material Record : stairs
MAT1  ,   2  ,  <cossan name="RV2" format="%10.4e" original="1" />   ,   ,  .25 , 2500.
$ Material Record : columns
MAT1  ,   3  ,  <cossan name="RV3" format="%10.4e" original="1" />   ,   ,  .25 , 2500.
$ Material Record : floors
MAT1  ,   4  , <cossan name="RV4" format="%10.4e" original="1" />   ,   ,  .25 , 2500.
